Global PCB production value to decrease over 16% in 2009
According to research firm Prismark, global PCB production value in 2009 will drop 16.4% from 2008, the second biggest decline over the past 20 years, due to the sagging economy. The economy is expected to recover in 2010, but PCB production value may not return to the level of 2008 until 2012, it said.
Prismark in October 2008 forecast the value of global PCB output would grow 3.4% in 2008 and would fall 6.5% in 2009.
PCB production value in 2008 had a 0.8% growth. The biggest drop of PCB production value was 20.1% deline in 2001.
PCBs for automotive, consumer electronics, telecommunication, PC and IC packaging segments all are expected to have an over 15% decrease in 2009, Prismark added.
